In 2024, Pratt & Whitney will be awarding ten, $1000.00 non-renewable scholarships to eligible seniors who are advancing their knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM.)  These will be in the following three categories:

·        Women in STEM- female students who will be advancing their knowledge in STEM fields. Three $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded in this category.

·        Military Families- students who are children of currently serving or who have served in the military and will be advancing their knowledge in STEM fields. Three $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded in this category.

·        STEM Students- students who will be advancing their knowledge in STEM fields.  Preference will be given to underrepresented students in STEM.  Four $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded in this category.

In Addition, Pratt & Whitney will award five, $1000.00 SMART Scholarships.

The SMART Scholars Scholarship was established to promote careers in Skilled Trades (Advanced Manufacturing, Agriculture, Construction, Human Services, and Transportation.)  Skilled Trades Industries rely on workers who have a passion for hard work, determination and drive, and have specialized skills and talents. Buncombe County Schools Foundation received funds from private donors to help develop the workforce of the future.  Through these funds, the Pratt & Whitney will award 5 $1000.00 scholarships to seniors from Buncombe County High Schools who meet the scholarship criteria.  Applicants must be attending a community college, trade school, or involved with a company’s work-based learning program such as an apprenticeship or an internship.
